Spicy Sausage & Broccoli Pizza

September 1, 2015

Now i'm at a point in my life..

Where i'm not sure which I love more.

Garlic or Pizza.

I will never have to choose between the two!! Never! End of story.

The sausage, really - is why.

Spicy and fatty and rich.

Paired with fresh gooey mozzarella and then a quick hit of the fresh sauteed broccoli.

You just can't go wrong with this pizza.

Actually - you can't go wrong with any kind of pizza.

Am I right ?

And it all comes down to the crust in the end.

You gotta have a nice pizza crust and I finally came up with the best recipe.

And another essential component.......Is a pizza stone. You NEED one in your life.

It was either, I buy and get a pizza oven installed ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$)

Or I get something temporary until I can afford the kitchen of my dreams.

And Pizza stones are awesome and about $20. Get one. You'll love it.

And it took me a little to figure out why my stone wasn't making extra crispy and chewy crust...it's because my oven wasn't hot enough.

If you want to replicate those pizza ovens, you gotta crank that oven up baby. To about 500 degrees. And your crust will be perfection.

I even accomplished those lovely bubbles in the crust!!!! All it took was a hotter oven.

 Enjoy this slice of heaven!

makes two pizzas

Ingredients:

  • Pizza Dough Recipe

  • 1/2 pound spicy sausage (taken out of the casing)

  • 1 large head of cauliflower chopped

  • 4 minced garlic cloves

  • Pizza Sauce (my fav will always be don pepino, use your favorite kind)

  • Fresh Mozzarella

  • Parmesan Cheese

Directions:

  1. Place your pizza stone in your oven and preheat the oven to 500 degrees.

  2. Meanwhile - over medium heat, cook your sausage, crumbling the mixture to get chunks.

  3. When sausage is cooked, throw in chopped broccoli and cook for 5 minutes. Not long because it will finish off in the oven.

  4. Take your pizza dough and place dollops of pizza sauce on. Followed by minced garlic, fresh mozzarella and top with the sausage and broccoli mixture.

  5. Bake on the pizza stone for about 10-15 minutes until crust is crispy and cheese is gooey.

  6. Take out top with fresh parmesan and ENJOY!

tip: if you don't have a pizza stone, try using a baking sheet as a replacement. Make sure to sprinkle cornmeal on before placing your dough on the hot baking sheet to prevent sticking. A pizza peel is super helpful with moving the pizza from counter to oven. If you don't have one of those - just essemble on a baking sheet and place in the oven. Preheating the stone/baking sheet is essential to get the best crust but if you don't have a pizza peel it will be hard to trasnfer. So invest my friends!
