Crispy Bang Bang Tofu Tacos

July 30, 2018

This bang bang taco is BANGIN.

And no, not shrimp.....but tofu!

No lie, this was my first time eating tofu and it was so good!

it barely has any taste, super mild....could pass as chicken but the texture is creamy. And even better, it's super good for you!

It's mashed soybeans - Low calorie, no cholesterol and is an excellent source of protein, iron, and calcium!!

Aren't they beautiful?

You just have to fry the little chunks of tofu and toss in bang bang sauce. You can buy already made bang bang, or simply just make your own.

Siracha....tho.......

I was always a Franks girl, Now I'm addicted to Siracha.

ALL BECAUSE OF THIS RECIPE!

Siracha is sooooo good! Make sure you get the right brand - there's a ton, the one with the rooster on it! Usually found in the spanish/asian isle foods.

yaaasssssss

I'll just leave this recipe here.

For you to day dream about tomorrow.....

and then suddenly....you'll be a tofu fanatic.

TOFU!!!

Ingredients:

  • ½ block extra firm tofu – drained (place the full block between two folded dish towels and place a cast iron (or something else heavy) ontop of the tofu for 30 minutes – 1 hour to drain)

  • Soft Tortillas

  • Thin slices of red onion

  • Sour Cream

  • Finely sliced green onion

Batter:

  • 2 egg yolks

  • 1 c really cold water

  • 1 Tbs garlic powder

  • 1 c flour (plus a little more or less depending on the batter consistency)

Bang Bang Sauce:

  • ¼ c mayo

  • ¼ c Siracha

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 2 garlic gloves pressed

  • Pinch of salt and pepper

  • 1 tsp vinegar

Directions:

  1. Cut the drained tofu inhalf and cut into ½ inch cubes. The smaller the cubes the better, set aside.

  2. In a small bowl, combine all of the ingredients for the bang bang sauce – place in the fridge until use.

  3. In a large pot, bring 1 inch of oil to high heat – over medium high

  4. Meanwhile – make the batter. Combine the egg yolks with the cold water, whisking until combined. Then add in your flour – don’t over mix,  you want little lumps of flour. This should be the consistency of pancake mix.

  5. When oil is ready, dip one little tofu bite at a time into the batter and drop into the hot oil. Cook until browned and let drain onto a paper towel. You can do this in batches (Do not overcrowd the pan – the oil will lose heat if overcrowded and the tofu will soak up all the oil)

  6. Once all tofu is done, coat them with the bang bang sauce!

  7. Load up your soft shell Taco, top with sour cream and onion and ENJOY!!!!!

  8. Or skip the taco and eat as is.
