Homemade Crusty Bread
With only a few simple ingredients - you will have yourself your own loaf of bread in no time!
There is just one crucial thing you'll need - a pizza stone.
There are ways to work around this but to just cut out any mishaps, the stone is the way to go. And you can use it for just about anything!
A pizza stone gets preheated with the oven and absorbs moisture as the bread bakes which gives the bread super crispy crust. You can find them just about anywhere - I bought mine from Bed & Bath for about 15$ and I use it daily.
This recipe took a couple times, you want your dough to be sticky - but not TOO sticky. So I had to play around with the flour ratio.
But the recipe I have is bound to give you perfect bread each time.
I definitely ate 1/3 of this loaf no problem.
I had just made vodka sauce (which will be coming this week) and I started to dip my bread into the sauce and it just didn't come to an end.
It's just something about freshly baked bread.....
You simply can't beat it.
Homemade Crusty Bread
yield: 1 large loaf
prep time: 2 hours
cook time: 25 - 35 minutes
1 ½ c very warm water
¾ tsp instant dry yeast
Pinch of salt
Pinch of sugar
Pinch of fresh black pepper
1 Tbs fresh pressed garlic (optional)
3 ¼ c all purpose flour
In a bowl combine the water yeast spices and fresh garlic.
Dump in all of your flour and mix until JUST combined – you do not want to let your yeast rise beforehand and you do not want your dough to be perfect and smooth. The dough should be sticky but not sticky enough where if you press into the dough it completely sticks to your finger. If it is too loose add 1/8 of a cup of flour more.
Let rise for 2 hours.
Preheat oven with pizza stone to 450 degrees – if you do not have a pizza stone, use a baking sheet, flipped over so the bottom is your surface.
Grab some parchment paper, heavily coat the parchment with flour – dump our your dough, coat with more flour and shape as desired. You do not want to work with the dough that much – that way the air bubbles inside keep.
Slash the top of the bread dough with a very sharp knife to get design.
Bake for 25-35 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
